Today's J Squared column brings you news from the wide world of sports:
Good, clean fun - Griffey keeps it old school
There's been a lot of big news in baseball lately, with Steven Strasburg coming up from the minors and Armando Galarraga's almost perfect game. But I thought the event that could use a little more rehashing on my part was Ken Griffey Jr.'s retirement.
It's so crazy to reflect on Griffey's career. I immediately flashback to life at Mosier Elementary School, and reading Sports Illustrated for Kids during free reading time in the library. I remember all the Mariners T-shirts and hats we wore in those days. And I remember the TV commercial* with Griffey running out of the stadium, through Seattle, and across the United States to catch a fly ball.
Those were the days of Griffey, Michael Jordan and John Elway. Those were the days before every NBA player was covered in ugly tattoos. That was also before baseball's steroids scandal. Oh, the good ol' days...
Also in today's page:
Two viewpoints, one from Sam Granato who is the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senator from Utah and another in support of Mike Lee who is running for the Republican nomination, both dealing with nuclear testing.
